Description
The Importance of Civic Engagement for JPSACivic engagement is essential for JPSA because it strengthens the Jewish community’s role as an active, contributing force in broader society. By engaging in civic initiatives, JPSA can foster meaningful relationships with diverse communities, advocate for shared values, and ensure that Jewish voices are heard in critical conversations about policy, social justice, and communal well-being.JPSA’s involvement in civic engagement promotes leadership development among young professionals, empowering them to become informed and proactive citizens who can advocate for issues that impact both the Jewish community and society at large. By participating in civic projects, JPSA members gain hands-on experience in coalition-building, public service, and social impact—skills that not only benefit their personal and professional growth but also contribute to the resilience and influence of the Jewish community. Moreover, civic engagement aligns with Jewish values such as tikkun olam (repairing the world) and tzedek (justice), reinforcing JPSA’s commitment to ethical leadership and social responsibility. Through strategic partnerships, volunteer initiatives, and advocacy efforts, JPSA can help address local and national challenges, strengthen interfaith and intercultural collaborations, and enhance the visibility of Jewish leadership in civic life.By prioritizing civic engagement, JPSA positions itself as a bridge between the Jewish community and broader social movements, ensuring that Jewish perspectives and concerns are integrated into the collective efforts to build a more just, inclusive, and equitable society.

Homer Davis Elementary
Homer Davis Elementary School, located within the Flowing Wells School District, serves a diverse student population. Teachers face resource constraints while striving to provide students with meaningful, high-impact educational experiences. Many students come from underserved communities, making it essential for teachers to build strong relationships and create a learning environment where students feel supported and engaged.
This project presents an opportunity to design a Teacher Pack—a curated collection of resources, tools, and materials designed to empower teachers at Homer Davis. The goal is to identify and understand the key challenges teachers face, then develop a tangible toolkit that provides immediate and long-term support.
Additionally, this initiative will build the foundation for future collaboration and partnerships, ensuring ongoing support for students and educators.
Handmaker Jewish Services For Aging
Handmaker Jewish Services for Aging is a senior living and care facility that values community, dignity, and meaningful engagement. Many residents have rich life experiences and wisdom, yet often face loneliness and a lack of intergenerational connection. Meanwhile, younger generations—children, adolescents, and young professionals—are navigating life transitions, personal development, and career challenges.
This project presents an opportunity to develop an intergenerational mentoring program at Handmaker, where youth and elders engage in structured listening sessions to foster mutual learning and relationship-building. Through these mentorship-style conversations, young participants will gain valuable insights from the elders' experiences, while the elders will find purpose and engagement by sharing their knowledge and stories.
The goal is to design a scalable, well-structured mentorship framework that promotes active listening, personal growth, and community connections, enhancing the well-being of all participants.
